Salik Tolls and Traffic Fines on a Dubai Rental Car: Who Pays and How Much in 2026

The renter pays every Salik toll and traffic fine during a Dubai car rental. At Speedy Machine, each Salik crossing costs a fixed AED 8 at any time of day, with all fees included. Abu Dhabi Darb tolls cost the same AED 8 per crossing. Pay fines online yourself and you pay no admin fee. When Speedy Machine pays a fine for you, a fee of AED 30 applies.

How does Salik work on a rental car?

Every Speedy Machine car carries a Salik tag on the windscreen. Each time you drive under a gate, the system records the crossing against the car plate. You do not need your own Salik account. Speedy Machine charges a flat AED 8 per crossing, with no peak or off-peak difference and no extra fees.

You choose how to pay your Salik total:

• Deducted from your deposit

• Paid when you return the car

• Paid when you renew a monthly rental

Official Salik rates and timings in 2026

Do Speedy Machine cars go to Abu Dhabi?

Yes. Every Speedy Machine car is registered with Darb, the Abu Dhabi toll system. Each Darb crossing costs AED 8. Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain have no road tolls. All Speedy Machine cars stay inside the UAE.

Who pays traffic fines on a rental car?

The renter pays every fine issued during the rental period. Dubai Police and the RTA issue fines against the car plate, so the fine reaches Speedy Machine first. Speedy Machine matches the fine date and time to your rental dates and sends you the details. Fines cover speeding, red lights, parking and lane violations.

Paid public parking in Dubai costs AED 2.10 to AED 6.30 per hour including VAT, depending on zone and time. Parking without paying brings an AED 150 fine.

When do you get your deposit back?

Speedy Machine refunds the deposit 29 days after you return the car. Some fines and tolls reach the system days or weeks after the rental. The 29 days cover these late records.

How to keep Salik and fines low

• Plan routes with fewer toll gates. Google Maps and Waze show Salik gates on your route.

• Pay every fine online to avoid the AED 30 admin fee.

• Stay under the posted speed limit on every road.

• Pay parking through the Parkin app or by SMS.

• Ask for a Salik and fines statement when you return the car.
